# Desk Pet > A browser desk pet that watches a coding agent's session log (Claude Code or Codex), rings a bell when the agent seems to be waiting for the person, and sums up each finished task. The narration is written by MiniCPM5 1B running on the visitor's own GPU through WebGPU. Free, no account, nothing uploaded. URL: https://desk-pet.skillsafe.ai/ Languages: English, Simplified Chinese (the UI language is also the language the pet speaks) ## What it does - Follows a session log the person picks with the browser's file picker (Chrome and Edge): a single .jsonl file, or a folder where it always follows the newest session. Re-reads only the new bytes every 1.5 s. - Claude Code logs: one .jsonl per session in the projects folder of Claude Code's hidden folder in the home directory. Codex logs: ~/.codex/sessions/YYYY/MM/DD/rollout-*.jsonl. - Shows the agent's state on the pet: working (types on a laptop), may need you (rings a bell after a tool call has waited 15-120 s, or at once when Codex logs an approval request), done (hops and narrates), asleep after 10 idle minutes. - After each turn: a fact list computed without AI (duration, tool calls by name, files edited, commands run, failures, the agent's last words) plus a one-sentence summary in the pet's voice. - Earlier turns seen while the tab is open are listed under the latest one (up to 8, kept in memory only). If a long log was read from its last 4 MB and the current turn started before that, the page says the counts may be partial. - Chat with the pet. Optional "think first" mode uses MiniCPM's thinking. - Pop-out: Document Picture-in-Picture keeps the pet in an always-on-top window. Optional sound and desktop notifications. - Characters: a hamster (Mochi), a cat (Yuki), a pear (Pip), or your own SVG/PNG/APNG/GIF/WebP image (for example one made with pet-forge), each with an editable name and personality. - Without WebGPU the pet still works with canned lines built from the same facts. ## On-device model - MiniCPM5-1B (OpenBMB, Apache-2.0), single-file q4f16 ONNX export by skjortan, 931 MB, fetched once by content hash from models.skillsafe.ai and kept in the browser's Cache Storage. - Runtime: onnxruntime-web 1.27.0 (MIT), WebGPU backend; needs shader-f16. ## Privacy The log is read in the page and never leaves it. There is no server component and no account. ## Credits Inspired by OpenBMB's MiniCPM-Desk-Pet (https://github.com/OpenBMB/MiniCPM-Desk-Pet, AGPL-3.0) and rullerzhou-afk's pet-forge (https://github.com/rullerzhou-afk/pet-forge, MIT). No code from either project is used; this is an independent browser implementation of the idea.
